The Market Hall

Often described as a “gem in Shrewsbury’s crown”, the town’s national award-winning Market Hall is well worth a visit for its vibrant blend of delicious street food, unique cafes, boutique stalls, arts and crafts, fresh local produce and much more.  There’s even an artisan gin bar well stocked with more than 100 craft gins.

Spy Shrewsbury’s soaring post-modernist clock tower on the skyline and here you’ll find the Market Hall, hunkered at its base.

This large indoor market, home to more than 60 independent businesses, has earned a reputation as a destination for some of the most unique, independent shopping and creative lunch spots in town.

It won the title of ‘Britain’s Favourite Market’ in 2018 and the awards for ‘Best Midlands Market’ in 2019 and 2020.

A number of times a year the market opens late, until 10pm, as a popular Saturday evening venue for food, drinks and a spot of twilight shopping.

Diners can enjoy flavours from around the world including Thai and Indian street food, tapas, Tex-Mex, continental and authentic Beijing dumplings. Vegan and vegetarian diets are well catered for throughout the market.

Local growers, including organic farmers, come to market to sell their fruit and vegetables. Traditional family butchers sell local produce while fishmonger Barkworths Seafoods stocks the finest catch from small, family-run, inshore day boats.

Cook & Carve delicatessen has a counter stuffed full of artisan cheeses, charcuterie and their own sausages and cured bacon made from local pork.

Other food and drink specialists include Black Box Spice Company, which creates its own gourmet spice blends, and independent wine merchant Iron & Rose which sells wines from small production vineyards around the world.

Explore the rest of the market from original art and handcrafts, home accessory and gift boutiques to plants, flowers, books, bicycles, model trains, vinyl records, antiques and collectables.

Company of Hounds is a boutique for stylish, pampered pooches looking for accessories such as Harris Tweed collars, natural treats and grooming products.

You can drop in for a cut and trim at Risdon’s barbershop, book a holiday at travel pod The Travel Table or even hire a bicycle to explore more of Shrewsbury and the surrounding area. Supplier Urban Bikes UK provides sightseeing cycle route maps that weave through the town and fan out into the countryside.

Full trading days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 8am to 4pm. Thursdays are a limited trading day with a selection of stalls open.
