The magical Enchanted Express is returning to the Severn Valley Railway, with Dame Julie Walters reprising her role as narrator.

The event, which runs every weekend from 26th November until Christmas Eve, is inspired by the classic festive tale ‘Twas the Night before Christmas and is an exciting, interactive experience with live characters on board the train.

Passengers will be accompanied by narration from the award-winning Dame Julie, alongside enchanting music as they are transported from Bridgnorth to Highley aboard historic carriages.

As part of the story, Santa and his friends will visit each compartment to interact with children and pose for photographs. Each child will receive a festive gift, but only if they’re on the ‘nice’ list!

For that extra touch of magic, children of all ages are encouraged to wear their pyjamas, as they’re whisked away on a festive adventure like no other.

This year, the Severn Valley Railway has worked with Bridgnorth-based ReachOut Arts on an exclusive Enchanted Express hardback book with hand-painted illustrations, and each compartment will receive a copy on arrival.

Lewis Maddox, the SVR’s events manager said: “Christmas is the most magical time of year on the Severn Valley Railway and the Enchanted Express is a key part of that.

“We’ve added more excitement and sprinkled extra fun throughout the experience to make this event extra-special.

“Alongside Santa Trains from Kidderminster and Steam in Lights in the evenings from Bridgnorth, we’ve got a really exciting range of Christmas events and experiences this festive season – look out for announcements soon about our Carol Trains and festive dining!”

Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
