Brown Clee Hill Hike

Sat 22 February 2025 Brown Clee Hill Hike

Abdon Burf, standing at 1,771 feet (540 m), is the highest point in Shropshire and the highlight of this scenic hike. While much of Brown Clee Hill is blanketed in plantation, the summit and western flanks offer open heathland with stunning panoramic views.

As we cross to Clee Burf, you’ll learn about the fascinating history of these hills, which have seen numerous wartime plane crashes. From here, we’ll descend via Boyne Lake, a tranquil hidden gem in the Shropshire Hills—a perfect picnic spot or even a wild swimming opportunity for the daring!

Why Join?

This hike is more than just an adventure—it’s an opportunity to:

  • Explore the beautiful Shropshire Hills with like-minded outdoor enthusiasts.

  • Make new friends and connect with a friendly, inclusive group.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just starting out, this walk is the perfect way to enjoy the fresh air and natural beauty of Shropshire.

Route Highlights

  • Abdon Burf – Stand atop the highest point in Shropshire and enjoy incredible views from the open heathland. Spot the air traffic control masts and learn about their role in guiding modern planes.

  • Clee Burf – Cross over to this second summit for more stunning views and an insight into the wartime history of these hills.

  • Boyne Lake – A serene and secluded lake perfect for a peaceful moment, a picnic, or even a quick wild swim for those feeling brave!
