Christmas Wine & Food Masterclass

Christmas day is a very special day, and for wine lovers particularly so!

Join us as we taste our way through a “Perfect Christmas Day for Wine Lovers”.

We start of course with Champagne. There is nothing to beat Champagne with a Christmas day breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

Moving on we then sample a pre-dinner glass of Fino Sherry. Despite its image as a drink for your grandmother, a traditional bone-dry Fino sherry is a lovely aperitif, maybe with a few nuts.

Then onto Christmas lunch itself. Of course, what wine you choose does depend on what you’re going to eat, but we cover some of the best matches and safest selections.

For traditional roast turkey we will sample a Chablis (Chardonnay) and a Red Burgundy (Pinot Noir).

The Red Burgundy would complement any other bird you may decide on such as goose or duck.

If your Christmas lunch table is graced by a rib of beef perhaps we will sample a Claret (Red Bordeaux) from the Haut Medoc.

We will also discuss options for other Christmas lunch combinations, so whether you’re a traditionalist, an experimentalist or a vegetarian there will be a recommendation for a suitable Christmas wine.

For your Christmas pudding and mince pies we will sample another Sherry. However, nothing could be so different as the lusciously sweet Pedro Ximenez (PX). This jet black, wonderfully concentrated sherry has been described as “Christmas Pudding in a glass”.

Finally (if anyone is still hungry!) we finish off with a glass of Port and some blue cheese.

Merry Christmas!

As ever, ISO wine tasting glasses are supplied along with tasting notes, a few nibbles (and some cheese to finish) and water.

This event makes a wonderful way of getting into the Christmas mood, book early to avoid disappointment.

Don’t miss these amazing events!
