Shropshire weddings: tie the knot in beautiful Shropshire

Could there be a more romantic place than Shropshire to get married? You’ve found England’s landlocked, enchanting county, bordered by Wales and four English counties. Shropshire is both rural and majestic – lots of green land, ‘blue remembered hills’ and big skies. Our county is the perfect backdrop to your wedding pictures and the perfect beginning to your happily ever after. Historians believe King Arthur and Guinevere married in Shropshire – or rather the royal couple from which romantic Arthurian legend is derived. The real King Arthur is believed to have been Owain Ddantgwyn, ‘the Bear’, a warrior king of the Votadini trible who ruled his kingdom from Viroconium (now Wroxeter, Shropshire). His lady, Ganhumara, came from Oswestry. Whatever style of wedding you envision, a Shropshire wedding venue exists to make your dreams come true. Shropshire has castles, stately homes and manor houses for lavish wedding celebrations. Several Shropshire country house hotels offer exclusive use for weddings. And check out Shropshire’s stunning gardens for post-ceremony drinks and photographs. Getting married in a gourmet county such as Shropshire means your wedding breakfast is bound to be special too. You don’t need a big wedding, of course, to have a beautiful day. Shropshire is blessed with many intimate wedding venues – some quirky, each one charming – to help you and your partner plan the wedding that reflects your personalities. Congratulations on your engagement…now, let’s get you married in Shropshire!

Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.
