Shropshire producers: learn about our region’s delicious food and drink

Shropshire’s agricultural heritage and beautiful, rural surroundings make ours an especially fruitful county for food and drink producers. All around Shropshire you’ll find passionate people dedicated to making delicious products and selling them locally, nationally, even across the world. Meet them face to face at our produce markets, in Shropshire farm shops, and at various Shropshire festivals. English wine is increasingly sought after and, here in Shropshire, our soil nurtures several renowned vineyards. At Kerry Vale Vineyard in south Shropshire near the Welsh border you can try their wines which have received commendations and awards both in the region and internationally. A long-established Shropshire vineyard can be found at Wroxeter, near the site of the Roman town. The recently opened Hencote Estate is a must-visit for oeno-tourists too. Shropshire is also great at beer – from north to south, our county is home to several well-known breweries. One of many success stories comes from Salopian Brewery whose New England IPA, Paper Planes, won Supreme Champion at the 2019 International Beer Challenge. So it’s official: Shropshire has produced the world’s best beer. If spirits are your thing then look for award winning gins and liqueurs. Shropshire’s fruits blend tastily into gins and liqueurs we have found so look out for them in farm shops and independent wine shops around Shropshire and beyond. Various Shropshire producers are known for their specialist cheese, flour, sausage rolls, meringues, scotch eggs and rapeseed oil. Shropshire can even boast specialist sweets, once spotted in royal surroundings at Sandringham House. At its independent manufacturing unit near Shrewsbury, high-end confectionery company Champion & Reeves makes delectable soft nougat, butterscotch and cream toffee. Ready to tempt your tastebuuds?
