Travel to Shropshire with our transport partners West Midlands Railway this year!

How to get here

Travelling to Shropshire is easy. We’re in the English Midlands, with the M54 motorway that connects with the M6 in Staffordshire and forms part of the route to North Wales. Our nearest airports are Birmingham and Manchester, each around 1.5 hours away. Much of Shropshire is just over one hour from Birmingham, the UK’s second city.

By Rail

By Rail

It’s easy to get around Shropshire by train once you arrive. Shropshire has 19 National Rail stations on various railway lines, including at Shrewsbury, Church Stretton, Ludlow, Telford Central, Wellington, Cosford and Whitchurch. These give us excellent railway links to London, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff. Shropshire is also blessed with several lovingly run heritage railways, although these are less about reaching destinations and more about enjoying the journey.

West Midlands Railway

At West Midlands Railway we strive to provide a rail service that everyone can feel proud of. One that’s responsive, better equipped and more reliable for our community.

We’ve introduced new trains between Birmingham and Shrewsbury, and with our new trains it’s the little things that go a long way – like free wifi, usb plugs and seat back tables so you can keep browsing on the move. Our new trains are more accessible, with more spacious carriages and dedicated space for wheelchairs, so everyone can travel in comfort. There’s even extra under seat storage for those who don’t pack light.

We operate hourly during the day and every half hour in the peak. Plan your journey with the booking widget on this page or find out more atΒ westmidlandsrailway.co.uk

By Bus

Shropshire has National Express coach links from London, stopping in Shrewsbury and Telford. A comprehensive Shropshire bus network will take you to our towns and villages across the county. In summer special shuttle buses connect many of south Shropshire’s most popular tourist spots.

Park and Ride

Shropshire park and ride services are in Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth and Ludlow, giving you car-free access to our wonderful market towns without the expense of town-centre parking or the hassle of looking for a space. You can make the most of free parking in Shrewsbury on Sundays. So now you know how to reach Shropshire. The question is, will you ever want to leave?
