Where you can find us
Following a meticulous six-year, multi-million pound restoration, this Grade II* listed building—renowned as a former residence of Catherine of Aragon, the first wife of King Henry VIII—enters a new chapter as a boutique hotel, restaurant, and bar.
This extraordinary property, which traces its origins back to the 12th century and has housed everyone from local aristocracy to two sea captains, now offers a unique blend of historical splendour and modern luxury.
Castle Lodge features seven spacious, individually designed suites – each with separate sleeping, sitting, and kitchen areas – providing sumptuous accommodation for travellers from near and far. Every suite is named after a notable former resident, including royalty, an ancient cordwainer, and various distinguished Victorians. The Catherine of Aragon Suite draws inspiration from the Moorish ambiance of her childhood home, the Alhambra, while the Henry VIII suite dazzles with bold colours and patterns that reflect the king’s penchant for opulence.
On the ground floor, guests and locals alike can enjoy the exquisite bar, restaurant, and snug. The culinary direction is helmed by acclaimed chef and entrepreneur, Harry Bullock, a favourite amongst Shropshire epicureans and beyond. Committed to sustainability and seasonality, Bullock meticulously sources ingredients from local and worldwide producers, ensuring quality, consistency and ethicality. The beverage programme features world-class wines and expertly crafted cocktails.
“If I could bottle my favourite sort of British hotel – independent, idiosyncratic, characterful, crafted, cared for – I’d commission a miniature model of Castle Lodge, encase it in glass and keep it on my desk.” Fiona Duncan, Hotel Reviewer for The Telegraph, May 2026.
