Darwin's Townhouse

Darwin’s Townhouse is a privately owned, family run late 18th Century Grade II* Georgian Townhouse which was purchased in 2016 and has undergone a complete refurbishment. Creating a 19 bedroom boutique bed and breakfast in the heart of Shrewsbury town centre.

Located in a quiet backwater of the town with its black and white Tudor buildings and higgledy piggildy streets with names you want to say out loud, a river that scoops up the town in a loop with its eclectic mix of independent shops, restaurants and high street stores. A mix of the very old, the very new, the quirky and the one-offs.

We offer a welcoming and friendly home from home with a peaceful garden and lounges to relax and enjoy.

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
