The boathouse bar and grill
The interiors of this back and white Tudor inn are intimate, a set of small adjoining rooms with wood deck floors and scrubbed oak tables gives the impression of being on a boat sailing down the Severn.
The elevated situation above the river captures the reflected light from the flowing water below and creates views to the park.
In winter the log burner is the focal point in the back bar , and in the summer tables alongside the leaded windows are favourite viewing spots.
Furnishings are simple , timber painted slatted benches , a collection of stick back painted antique chairs and welsh blankets .
Whitewashed walls with pale painted wood panelling emphasise the willows and landscape beyond .
The real attraction is the Boathouse beer garden , an extensive timber deck on the waters edge , capturing the sunshine, here it’s all about the waterside activity , the many boats , rowers , and the resident ducks and swans .
Recently, elegant canvas structures have been installed to shelter diners and drinkers from spring showers and to shade them from the summer sun.
Festoon lights and flame heaters illuminate the terrace at night creating a magical gathering place .
