The Ercall and Wrekin Circular Group Hike

This circular group hike over The Ercall and The Wrekin combines Shropshire’s unique landscapes with historic landmarks and expansive views. Join us for an intermediate-level adventure over 10.5 km (6.5 miles) as we explore exposed quarries, ancient woodlands, and iconic viewpoints. Our route takes us first through The Ercall, known for its fascinating, exposed quarries and tranquil Limekiln Wood. We’ll then ascend The Wrekin, a well-loved local peak with stunning panoramic views and a special Iron Age hill fort. Topping it off, the special Wrekin trig point marks our achievement with a fantastic vista over the Shropshire Hills.

In Shropshire, “round the Wrekin” is a saying that means taking the long way around—exactly what we’ll do as we explore this beloved peak from every angle (weather permitting). After taking in the views, we’ll finish with a steep final descent.
