In Shropshire, you’ll find some fantastic mountain bike trails set in the designated area of outstanding natural beauty spanning an impressive 802 square kilometres. Brace yourself for some stunning views when you visit!

Mountain Biking at Minton Batch – Long Mynd, South Shropshire

Grading: blue – Moderate

Distance: 16.3 miles

Parking: Available at Carding Mill Valley or in the town of Church Stretton. Prices vary depending on season

The Long Mynd is part of Shropshire’s area of outstanding natural beauty. Minton Batch is set in the heart of Carding Mill Valley, 4,942 acres of heather-covered hills with stunning views of the Shropshire Hills.

As Carding Mill Valley is managed by the National Trust, you’ll find excellent facilities here including a tea-room, shop and car parking.

Although Minton Batch is a well-known trail amongst the MTB community with regular features in MBR, it’s with good reason! Pole Bank (the highest point of the Long Mynd) boasts some of the county’s best views. On a good day, you can even see Snowdon! Once you visit you’ll soon discover why Mountain Bike Rider Magazine named Minton Batch the best trail of 2011.

Eastridge Woods – Habberley

Grading: Red – Difficult/Black – Severe

Distance: Variable Trail lengths

Parking: There is a free car park on the east side of the woods

12 miles up the road from Carding mill Valley is Eastridge Woods, Shropshire’s hot spot for Mountain Bikers. Pre-mountain biking, this area was mined for lead and other minerals in 1955, At one point it was believed to be the most productive lead mine in Europe. Fast forward to the ’90s, Eastridge Woods hosted the British National Mountain Biking Championships in 1995 and 1999. Nowhere days, Eastridge Woods is still a Mountain Bikers playground. This area has two official trails and is managed by Forestry England and Eastridge Trail Partnership.

Hopton Woods

Grading: Blue (Moderate) – Black (Severe)

Distance: 1 – 12.6km

Parking: Hopton Wood Car Park (free)

Not far from the small village of Craven Arms you’ll find Hopton Woods. Also managed by Forestry England, Hopton Woods is yet another stunning area to ride in. With 5 trails available, there is something for every level of Mountain Biker to enjoy.

Rewild MTB is a mountain bike coaching and tour company based in South-Shropshire just outside the historic town of Ludlow. Coaching courses range from complete beginner right up to expert. Day rides and multi-day tours are based around riding in the Long Mynd and the Clee Hills.
