Cycling in Shropshires Lake District

For those cyclists looking for flat routes, Shropshire is packed with meandering rivers, canals and lakes to explore. Shropshire’s lake district near Ellesmere is perfect for families, with its flat terrain and lakeside view cycle trails, you and the family can enjoy a relaxed ride. If you’d rather a little further, why not try our river or canal routes? Take in Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth on the river Severn or Ellesmere, Whitchurch and Market Drayton on the Llangollen canal.

Exploring Shropshires Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Across Shropshire, there are trails taking in some tough hills, effortless town centre lanes and countryside pathways, and Visit Shropshire & Shropshire Council have put together some of the best to follow on a weekend or summer’s evening. Why not try the Lady Halton route which is 8.5 miles of Mostly quiet, traffic-free roads and bridleways, with short hilly sections, starting from Millenium Green in Ludlow.

Alternatively, for the more adventurous, why not try ‘The Longmynd Motivator’. A 30-mile route with some steep climbing and a steep descent off the Long Mynd to Asterton. "🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
