Arts Alive is kicking off its new season of live performances with a nostalgic double bill at The Talbot Theatre in Whitchurch on September 29th. ‘Yorkshire Kernel’ by Danny Mellor and ‘The Land Girl’ by Kate Bramley will give audiences two shows for the price of one. ‘Yorkshire Kernel’ is a witty, theatrical journey where Danny Mellor takes on all the characters in this comic and nostalgic tale. James’ Grandad is dying but he has one last mission: to find trees all around the country in memory of his Second World War comrades. And James must plant an acorn where his Grandad wishes to be laid to rest. Mellor’s “bonkers” solo show undertakes a journey of Yorkshire wit and grit through one man’s determination to leave a long-lasting legacy. ‘The Land Girl’ is inspired by actual stories of Yorkshire Land Army ‘Girls’ collected by Kate Bramley. This one-woman play showcases some of the highs and lows of working on the land during wartime. Tap your feet and laugh along to songs and stories that capture the “can-do” spirit of the ladies who kept Britain fed during the hardships of World War II.

Both shows feature original music by Jez Lowe. “This will be a fantastic start to our vibrant new season of events,” said Hannah Prior, Artistic Director at Arts Alive. “We are excited to open with this acclaimed double bill from the superbly creative team at Bad Apple Theatre in York. They share our mission to bring high-quality theatre to remote locations. Both plays are sure to delight, so book your ticket now!”

“Mellor’s energy and inventiveness takes one’s breath away” – York Calling

“If you get chance to see this show do, for it is an engaging and uplifting experience” – York Press

The performance will take place at The Talbot Theatre in Whitchurch (SY13 2BY) on September 29th at 7:30pm. Tickets are £12 for adults, £6 for under 18s, or £30 for a family of 2 adults and up to 3 children. The show is suitable for ages 12+. Tickets are available at artsalive.co.uk

Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
