Byways Breaks

Byways Breaks arrange walking and cycling holidays in the unspoilt countryside of Shropshire, Cheshire and Welsh borders. We know the best places to stay and our cycling and walking routes are carefully planned so you explore the most beautiful countryside, visit places of interest and stop at the best pubs and tea shops.

All our walking and cycling holidays are self-led so you have the freedom to explore at your own pace, safe in the knowledge that all the other details of your holiday have been taken care of by us.

We know the area well and carefully select all the accommodation we use. Byways Breaks work closely with all our accommodation providers to ensure you have a comfortable stay and everything you need. We get excellent feedback from our customers, and many return to us again and again.

We have cycling holidays from 3 nights to week long holidays and a selection of walking holidays  around Shropshire and the Welsh borders, including the Shropshire Way and Offa’s Dyke Path.

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
