Beginner's Glass Fusing Day

Introduction to Glass Fusing:
Beginner’s Glass Fusing Day

11th November; 10:30 – 4:30

Working with glass is fun and addictive (and not at all scary) come and try it for yourself!
Choose from a half day or day long workshop.

Cost: £160.00 per person, booking essential.

In this 6-hour (approx.) workshop you will learn about the process and the whys and wherefores of glass fusing. In the morning you will make up to four small, 10cm square items, which can be coasters, glass picture tiles or little dishes. I encourage you to try different designs, techniques and finishes, though you can make a matching set (e.g. 4 coasters) if you prefer.

Then, after a break around lunch time, you will make a single larger piece; choose a wave, plate, bowl, etc. You can use any design/technique you’ve used in the morning or try another.
This workshop is approximately 6 hours (including the break) and I provide absolutely everything you will need; materials, equipment, kiln firing – it’s all included.

All workshops – Outline.

  • Safety first! Raw materials, tools & equipment.
  • What happens to glass in the kiln – the fusing process.
  • Introduction to terms: Warm glass, hot glass, cold glass. Fusing temperatures, slumping, cold working etc.
  • The glass we use and others, what is compatibility & why it matters!
  • Introduction to some basic design ideas & techniques.
  • Cutting and handling glass safely.

My workshops are flexible, and I encourage you to bring ideas and/or colours and/or patterns as inspiration. I then guide and advise you on how best to get the result you want.
I have a good choice of glass and appropriate equipment.

The aim is for you to relax and enjoy the ‘creative process’ while learning and making some fabulous art glass.

Note: You will not take anything away on the day! Each firing (fusing & slumping) takes several hours in the kiln and will take place during the following 2 weeks. I’ll let you know when they your glass is ready to collect. Can be posted at flat rates.

Workshop Health & Safety, Terms & Conditions.

  • You must wear closed shoes – no sandals or open toes!
  • Understand there are dangers inherent in working with glass, you must follow the advice given.
  • Wear comfortable clothing; trousers/jeans (no turn-ups) and not tucked into boots is best.
  • Long hair is best tied up and fluffy jumpers are not advised.
  • All materials and equipment, including safety equipment & PPE, will be supplied.
  • Not suitable for children under 12.
  • 12-16 years must be accompanied by an adult also participating in the workshop.
  • Tea, coffee, biscuits on tap! Lunch cannot be provided.
  • Please keep the studio tidy – it’s safer that way.

I have 2 plaves available for 11th November.

Looking forward to seeing you soon

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
