Coffee & Cake First Class Travel

Fancy a picturesque evening ramble by narrow gauge railway, in the comfort of first class, with fresh baked cakes and a hot drink? Join us every day throughout the summer for just that experience!

You’ll board at Llanfair Caereinion, postcode SY21 0SF, for an hour-long journey through beautiful Mid Wales. Large, free parking is offered here.

Collect your on-train cake and drink before your journey begins and head for your waiting train, departing on most dates at 16:45. Included homemade sponge cake, Welsh bara brith and your choice of hot beverage.

Climb on-board our first class carriage, built in 1961 for use in the West African nation of Sierra Leone. This vehicle, one of the most comfortable on the narrow gauge, is fitted with comfy armchairs and offers a great taste of world railway history.

You will travel alongside the pretty Banwy river before crossing it, passed two country halts where time stands still and reach your destination of Castle Caereinion where a short pause of 10 minutes is made before your return.

The price for two adults is £35, which includes travel in first class, cakes, hot drink and a Traveller’s Guide, the perfect look into our history. Additional passengers (up to a total group size of four) travel for £15. Advance booking

We regret that this carriage is not suitable, due to its historic nature, for those using wheelchairs, powered or unpowered. The carriage does have a fairly high step to reach its inside and more details can be found on our facilities page on the access to the vehicle.

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
