Coronation Photography Workshop

Capture the excitement of the King’s Coronation at the Severn Valley Railway

The Severn Valley Railway have teamed up with Lee Chapman of Chappers Photography for a truly unique workshop to capture the atmosphere of the railway as it celebrates the crowning ceremony of our new King. Expect flags, bunting, plenty of trains and some unique photography prospects. In addition to capturing the full-scale railway in all its glory, you will also get the chance to capture some high-quality model railways in The Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley.

This full-day course is a great opportunity if you are new to photography or if you already have some experience and want to brush up on your skills – this hands-on course will give you the chance to learn what your camera can do and develop as a photographer. Our expert tutor will guide you through the day and help you capture some amazing photographs of the internal and external features of the railway. You will learn about railway, location and macro photography and pick up some skills and tips on how to capture your very best images.

Your day will start at Kidderminster station where you will meet the course tutor who will deliver a brief introduction to the basics of re-enactment & railway photography, we will head down to the station to capture some shots of the buildings and locomotives as backdrops.

We will then depart from Kidderminster at 11.00am, experiencing the magic of vintage train travel to arrive at the beautiful station at Arley. We’ll have time at the station to capture some amazing images, including access to the air raid shelter. There’s also the opportunity to walk down to the river and enchanting village for some period scenes.

After our visit to Arley, you will board the next train to Highley at 1.03pm where you can pause for a short lunch break before continuing the photography within The Engine House Visitor Centre. Here you will be able to use the historic exhibits including the Royal Mail train as backdrops for some more unique photography opportunities. There’s also an amazing display of model railway layouts that you’ll be able to get up close and personal with. It’s then back to the station in time to position yourself to capture the arrival of the next train, which you will then board, departing at 3.45pm to Bridgnorth. On the train you will have chance to review some of your images and discuss them with the tutor before arriving at Bridgnorth for further photography opportunities at the station and in the Castle Gardens, a short walk from the station. At 5.05pm its back on the train to Kidderminster, arriving at 6.17pm.

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
