Heritage Open Days: Broseley Pipeworks

Join us for an exclusive tour of the Broseley Pipeworks; an original nineteenth century clay tobacco pipe factory, abandoned in the 1950’s.

Our Heritage Open Day tours will focus on how buildings like this are rescued, why their preservation is important and how we can care for them in the future.

We’ll also be taking a look at original documents from the archaeology survey alongside archive material relating to the site.

Our resident pipemaker will be demonstrating his skills and you’ll be able to ask any questions that you may have about this wonderful heritage craft.

We especially welcome visitors with family connections to, and memories of, the site. A member of staff will be available to record any local history information.

The site will be open 10:00-17:00. Pre-booking is not required.

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
