Laura’s Tower, Shrewsbury Castle & Soldiers of Shropshire Museum - Heritage Open Days

Heritage Open Days 10th September

Shrewsbury Castle & The Soldiers of Shropshire Museum

To celebrate this year’s HOD, on Sunday 10th September, we will be unlocking and opening the doors to Laura’s Tower with a rare chance to get a glimpse of original late 18th century decoration built by Thomas Telford to the designs of Robert Adams.

Situated in the heart of Shropshire’s County town, step back in time as you experience the Castle’s rich, 1000-year history. Within Shrewsbury Castle, explore the county’s finest regimental collection of the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry dating back to the formation of 53rd (Shropshire) Regiment in 1755 and the 85th Light Infantry in 1759.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll within Shrewsbury Castle’s award-winning grounds and climb the fairy-tale steps up to Laura’s Tower which provides spectacular views of Shrewsbury and the rolling Shropshire hills.

Within the Castle grounds there will be regency music and dancing by the Gracechurch Historical Dancers and there will also be FREE admission into Shrewsbury Castle.

Sunday 10th September
Laura’s Tower: 11am – 3pm
Shrewsbury Castle: 10.30am – 4pm

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
