1940s Photography Workshop

Capture your greatest shots and step back in time for a fantastic photography workshop!

We’ve teamed up with Lee Chapman of Chappers Photography, an experienced photographer and fully qualified lecturer in adult education, for an exciting photography workshop; all themed around the fantastic Flyin’ Forties.

In the first of a series of workshops planned this season, Lee will be taking ardent snappers back in time with some 1940s re-enactors, staging some shoots at our expertly restored stations, vintage locomotives and snappily dressed reenactors. This is a  wonderful chance to recreate some images from a bygone age!

This full-day course is a great opportunity for people of all skills sets! No matter if you are new to photography or if you already have some experience and want to brush up on your skills, this hands-on course will give you the chance to learn what your camera can do and develop your skills as a photographer. Lee will be your guide throughout the day and help you capture some amazing photographs whilst picking up some skills and tips on how to capture your very best images.

Your day will start at Kidderminster station at 11am where you will meet the course tutor who will deliver a brief introduction to the basics of re-enactment & railway photography, we will head down to the station to capture some shots of the buildings and locomotives as backdrops. Here we will meet up with our period-dressed reenactors who will be working with us throughout the rest of the day. Our reenactors will pose next to the station buildings whilst we await the incoming trains and work with us to capture the spirit of 1940s travel.

We will then depart the station at midday, experiencing the magic of vintage train travel to arrive at the beautiful station of Arley. En-route you will be able to capture our reenactors onboard the vintage carriages before we arrive for a short stop for more photography at Arley, you can make use of the air raid shelter and platforms for more unique photography opportunities with our reenactors.

After a short photoshoot at the station, you will board the next train to Highley at 2.30pm where you can pause for a short lunch break before continuing the photography within The Engine House Visitor Centre. Here you will be able to use the historic exhibits including the Royal Mail train as backdrops for some more unique photography opportunities with our reenactors. You will then arrive at the authentic station in time to position yourself to capture the arrival of the next train, which you will then board, departing at 4.50pm. On the train you will have chance to review some of your images and discuss them with the tutor before returning to Kidderminster.

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
