Spring Steam Gala

The first Severn Valley Railway steam event of the year comes in the form of the Spring Steam Gala – a festival of the best steam engines across the home-fleet plus some very special guest locomotives travelling from all over the country to the SVR!

Travel at your own pace and plan your own day, choosing when and where to swap trains to clock up those miles behind a variety of types of loco, travelling through Shropshire and Worcestershire. Plus, The Engine House will be open for you to get up close and personal to a variety of ages and classes of locomotives.

The perfect way to experience a busy timetable on the SVR with the largest number of steam engines in one place during four days of steam power

"🏰✨ Dive into the heart of Shrewsbury's Castle Quarter – the epicenter of history and grandeur! 🏰 Home to four of the town's largest historic treasures – Shrewsbury Castle, Library, Prison, and Train Station.

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
